SERVICE

The Service

Recovery Church Poconos will open on September 8, 2024. The service will be at 5:30 PM at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church Sanctuary. Recovery Church is a bridge between the 12-Step Fellowships and the Church. Recovery Church is all about Jesus, discipleship and the 12 Steps! Everyone is always welcome! Our weekly gatherings include worship music, prayer, fellowship, teachings and testimony.

It will be a time to thank the Lord, pray and worship for those who are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction and those who are in recovery from addiction. The first 3 Sundays of the months are prayer, worship, a time of testimony, sermon and the 4th Sunday we celebrate. The sermons are directed towards scripture, recovery and the 12 steps of recovery. The 4th Sunday is a time to pray, worship, celebrate and share a meal at 4:15 to 5:15 pm followed by celebration night.

THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

(All leaders are listed alphabetically by first name)

Albert Cush Read

Worship Leader

I am honored to be asked to serve as the worship team leader for the Poconos Recovery Church located at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church. I have been playing in bands my whole life. Particularly in bars where I picked up addictions to alcohol, marijuana and cocaine and struggled with those addictions for many years. I was able to overcome each addiction over the years, 1 at a time and am now clean and sober. I started attending the Wesleyan church in Stroudsburg a little over 1 year ago and became a member this year. I also attend celebrate recovery and play in that worship team there. Although my passion for many years was rock and roll, I quickly became a fan of modern Christian music and enjoy the comradery of playing with my band mates while also donating my time to the cause of helping people recover from various ills and hang ups associated with life. I feel that my experience in playing in bars gives me unique insight in peoples struggle to overcome addiction and am eager to share my experience both on and off the stage with people that are looking to move on with their lives beyond addiction. I have a deep faith in God and how he can change lives because he changed mine and am grateful and honored to be able to offer myself to serve the lord and a positive way.

Erica Ruiz

Prayer Team Servant Co-Lead

My name is Erica and I am greatful believer in Jesus Christ. In my recovery journey I have struggled with addiction, depression, anxiety, self hatred, codependency and so much more the Lord has delivered me from. I work on recovery every day because this is a daily process. It works if you work it. The Lord Jesus Christ found me in the dark and took me out into His glorious light. His love led me to repentance. His love completes me. I never knew a love like this before. True love exists in Him. He took my broken pieces and made me whole. He set me free and broke every chain in my life. I am free and who the son sets free is free indeed. I now live a live devoted to prayer and worship onto Him and a passion to help those that are in that same place that I was in. To show them the love of Christ. To spread the goodnews and set the captives free amen.

My clean date is March 1, 2010 and since then I have been involved in many recovery circles. My wife Alexis and I have been married since 2011 and have 5 boys. Reverend (T) Teresa Mankin & Minister Peter Mankin

Servant Team Co-Leaders

Reverend (T) Teresa Mankin - Co-Lead

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7, KJV

All to Jesus! I pray today for all those who suffer from the chains of addiction that one may find the Lord and the peace which is beyond understanding. I pray for the families of those suffering from the loss of a loved one that they may find comfort in His arms.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ my name is Reverend (T) Teresa Mankin and I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol, since December 25, 1986. I thank the Lord for what He has done in my life and I give all glory to Him Jesus. I have a heart the Lord has given me for those suffering from addiction. After years of struggles from the ages of 16 to 26 I surrendered my life to God and He broke the chains of addiction. I thank the Lord for a supportive family, friends, my sponsor and the rooms of AA, and CR for loving me. I am blessed to serve with this team guided by the Holy Spirit to bring hope to those struggling. Make no mistake, it is Jesus who is our leader who is transforming lives. I thank God for Phil and his team at Recovery Church for walking alongside others coupled with our supportive Pastors Lynda and Dana here at Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church and our Wesleyan District. My beloved husband, Minister Peter of 36 years will also be serving at the Poconos Recovery Church as a servant team co-leader. We have 3 biological children and our beloved Dom who we consider our family too. They all have beautiful significant others; Joe and Shannon, Kim and Lou, Josh and Kayla, Dom and Mario.

I will be graduating in December 2024 with my Masters in Pastoral Counseling, Addiction/Recovery with emphasis on addictions, sexual addiction and mental health. I served for 22 years as a drug/alcohol counselor until an accident in 2010. The Lord called me in 2014 to Bible College at Liberty University where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Religion, Theology and Bible Studies. Jesus called me to be in obedience to be a Pastor. I studied my prison ministry track with Born Again Ministries and became a minister in 2021. I completed my ordination track with Oklahoma Wesleyan and I am an ordained Reverend for the Wesleyan Church and serve as an Assistant Pastor here at Stroudsburg Wesleyan working with Celebrate Recovery for those incarcerated, homeless shelter and grief share.

Minister Peter Mankin - Co-Lead

I am blessed to serve at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church as one of the managers of the Cold Weather Homeless Shelter. I am also a leader in Celebrate Recovery and I minister to the men in rehabilitation by bringing in God’s word of hope to those struggling with addiction. I believe there is such a need for the Recovery Church because my recovery took on a whole new meaning and shape when I received Christ as my savior, saved by grace. I know today that true recovery and freedom comes from allowing Jesus into my life and allowing Him to transform me. I pray that people struggling with addiction can find freedom in Christ to break the chain and bondage of addiction.

Robin Read

Certified Family Recovery Specialist / Servant Team Co-Leader

After living a life running from one addiction to another, battling childhood traumas, living life on my own terms, and denying the existence of God, I finally found Christ in 2020 after my son relapsed and died of an overdose of fentanyl-tainted drugs. I was blessed to be welcomed into a loving church family. Going through my first 12-step program, real healing had begun. Growing ever deeper in my walk with Christ, I was called by Him to take a CRS class and, later that year, was called to become a ministerial student and serve in Recovery Church. I truly believe the entire family needs healing from addiction, not just the individual. My family is living proof of that, and I pray that I can help other families and individuals find recovery and freedom in Jesus Christ. My husband, Cush, who has been in recovery for many years, came to find Christ last year and will lead the Worship Team.
