SERVICE
The Service
Recovery Church SoPo meets every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Our service includes a celebratory time of worship followed by the mission statement of the Recovery Church Movement and that week's announcements. After we have announcements done we will have either a teaching from scripture, a testimony or a 12 step speaker either from AA or NA. As we draw to a close, we will hand out surrender crosses or anniversary night crosses and end with a closing song to allow for quiet reflection or need for prayer.

THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
(All leaders are listed alphabetically by first name)

Mark Hews
Servant Leader
My name is Mark Hews; I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and He is my Lord and Savior. I am an alcoholic/drug addict and have lived in Maine for most of my life. I have been clean and sober for 36 years. My early recovery years were spent at many AA meetings in the Portland area. I feel honored to have the privilege of serving in Recovery Church. I feel that the Lord is always moving in our midst and want to be in His service in any way I can. The most incredible experience in my life besides having two beautiful children was being baptized and finding Jesus Christ. God is always amazing.

Niki Merrill
Servant Leader
Niki pours her passion for truth, compassion, and optimism into every project, believing that these values, rooted in her faith in Jesus, can transform the way we support one another. At Recovery Church, she is dedicated to creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged on their journey to healing and growth. Outside of her work, Niki remains energized and committed to living out her faith. You might find her at a morning CrossFit class, discipling a woman at her church, or engaging in new adventures that challenge her beliefs (more likely her physical ability). She embraces every opportunity to serve and uplift others, embodying the change she wishes to see—a life filled with purpose, faith, and active service to her community.

Peter Amari Jr.
Servant Leader
Hello! I am a semi-retired senior Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and am excited to be part of the new Recovery Church of South Portland, Maine. It is both an honor and a privilege to be on the leadership team as we embark on this journey in the beautiful landscapes of Maine. This opportunity continues my lifelong commitment to helping and caring for my fellow Christians. My career began in law enforcement, followed by my transition into the nursing field, driven by my deep concern for others. Now, I am dedicated to supporting individuals in Christian recovery. With over 33 years of recovery from alcoholism, I am pursuing God’s true purpose for my life. My focus remains on helping others, and I pray for the strength to guide those in need, just as others have supported me.
