The Service
Our worship service, held every Tuesday at 7:00 pm, at Next Step begins with a time of praise and worship, creating an atmosphere of reverence and celebration as we come together in community. Following the musical worship, we offer a warm welcome to all attendees, recite the Serenity Prayer together, share important announcements, and lift up an opening prayer for our time of worship.
The service continues with meaningful readings that blend recovery wisdom and spiritual truth, drawing from sources such as the Big Book's "How it Works" or Preamble, "Why We Were Chosen," Hazelden's Thought for the Day, and the Recovery Bible, with selections carefully coordinated to complement the day's message.
The heart of our service is the pastoral message, which integrates biblical teaching with recovery principles to offer hope, encouragement, and practical guidance for the journey of faith and sobriety. We conclude our time together with an altar call and the symbolic presentation of crosses for those seeking prayer, commitment, or rededication, followed by a closing prayer that sends us forth with God's blessing and the strength to take our next steps in recovery and faith.

THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

Cory and Kelly Wietfeldt
Servant Leaders
Cory and Kelly Wietfeldt have been married for 34 years and are grateful to have shared a journey filled with God’s grace and redemption. Blessed with four wonderful children and two beautiful grandchildren, they cherish family deeply and love seeing how God continues to work through every generation.
For the past 10 years, Cory and Kelly have walked the path of 12 step recovery, experiencing first hand the transforming power of the steps and Jesus Christ in their lives. Their story is a testament to God’s mercy, healing and unfailing love. Today they are passionate about encouraging others in the recovery community and helping people discover the same hope and freedom they have found.
They are excited to see how God will move in and through the recovery church community to bring restoration, renewal and joy to those in need.

Rick Blake
Servant Leader
I was born in Kalamazoo, MI and raised in a military family up and down the East Coast. I returned to Kalamazoo after my own stint in the military, desperately trying to outrun my addiction and alcoholism—only to find no matter where I went, there I was. Arriving at that place that far too many of us know all too well—Knowing loneliness that few people know, being at the jumping off place, and wishing for the end (p. 152)—God once again revealed himself to me through the 12-step recovery process. My life today in no way resembles what it did back then, and that is not boasting about what I have done, but what Jesus Christ can do. I’m incredibly grateful and excited to be a part of Next Step Recovery Church because I feel it really is the next step that the other twelve point us to. Yes, I have a higher power, and his name is Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:13.
